Flight Service in much awaited Delhi-Vishakapatnam-Port Blair sector begins

Under the dynamic leadership of the Prime Minister, Shri Narendra Modi, the country as well as these far flung Islands have taken many leaps of development in the last year. One such stride was made today, towards providing better air connectivity between the Islands and the mainland India with the launch of the flight service on the Delhi-Vishakapatnam-Port Blair sector.

It was a landmark occasion when the flight connecting Delhi-Vishakapatnam-Port Blair arrived at Port Blair today marking the inauguration of the flight services in this sector. The Union Minister of civil Aviation, Shri Ashok Gajapathi Raju Pusapati, accompanied by his wife Smti Suneela Gajapati Raju was on this maiden flight alongwith CMD, Air India and other senior functioneries. The Lt. Governor, Lt. Gen A. K. Singh(Retd), waiving off the protocol reached the airport to receive the Minister and the inaugural flight.

Later on, the Hon’ble Minister was greeted by the BJP State President, Shri Vishal Jolly and TDP Precident, Shri Manikya Rao, along with their supporters. The Hon’ble Minister went around the Airport to inspect the ongoing development works and was briefed about the progress and other details by the officers of Airport authority of India. It was a happy occasion for the inbound and outbound passengers as they were presented flowers by the staff of Civil Aviation Development. The Hon’ble MP, called on the flight services between Delhi-Vishakhapatnam-Port Blair sector reflects the vision of the Lt Governor of the Islands and the commitment of the Administration to shift the passenger movement from ship to air.

People had gathered at the airport and expressed joy when the Air India flight touched down on the runway of the airport. It has fulfilled more than decades old demand of the Islanders, especially the Telugu Community residing in these Island.

As soon as the 168 seater Airbus A-320 aircraft landed at the Veer Savarkar International Airport, it was given a grand water canon salute. Meanwhile, speaking to the Reporters, a few passengers also shared their views about their journey. Shilpa, a passenger from Delhi said it was a very pleasant journey from Delhi to Port Blair, while another passenger, Rohit Gautam, a tourist from New Delhi echoed similar thoughts, already enchanted by these picturesque emerald Islands.

It is to be mentioned here that the concern of the Goverment of India for providing better air connectivity between inter-islands and Islands-mainland as well as the continuous pursuing of the matter with the Ministery by the Lt. Governor, Member of Parliament, President BJP State Unit and the A& N Administration finally bore fruits n the form of the flight services in the Delhi-Port Blair-Car Nicobar sector in July 2014 and another such services in the Chennai-Port Blair-Chennai sector in month of January 2015.
