A personal trip to Baratang Island from Port Blair is one of the most preferred sightseeing trip on the islands. Your journey begins at around 3:00 AM from Port Blair by road through the dense tropical forest to reach the starting point of the entrance, which leads to the Jarawa Tribal Reserve.
The gate is opened by the forest department officials for Baratang and all the vehicles are allowed to pass through the Jarawa Tribal reserve in a convoy. Often you might see a member of the Jarawa Tribe while passing through the tribal reserve. At the end of this forest journey, you will reach Baratang jetty.
Launch service is available to cross the sea bay. Then enjoy the breathtaking fibre boat ride through a fascinating Mangrove drive, which leads to the start point of the trek to Limestone caves.
Trek through dense forest to reach the Limestone Cave. Made up of the mineral calcite (calcium carbonate) the cave contains beautiful cave formation,later after returning e lunch and then Proceed to the Mudvolcano, one of the rarest thing to see the wonders of the nature.
Post Journey, you will follow the same route to reach Port Blair.

Yes, If you would like to cover Mud volcano and Lime stone cave both you have to start the trip by 3 am.
And if you want to skip a mud volcano visit you can start at 6 am.
People having a knee or back ailment should avoid planning for this trip as the road toward Baratang is long and bumpy at times. The trek inside the cave and the walk towards the Mud Volcano have to be considered while planning for senior citizens having difficulty in walking.
A hat, sun-glasses, some bites of snacks, a bottle of water, and maybe a mosquito repellent cream is some of the pre-requisites to make your trip comfortable. Even though there are no restrictions on your wardrobe, still a suggestion would say, go for closed shoes or Flip flops as the best footwear for this trip.
